- 3.3 Is there a minimum GPA requirement to enroll in the Initial Licensure
Program at NCSU?
- Yes. You must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 from your undergraduate program.
- 3.4 Are your classes given at night, since I am teaching during the
day?
- Classes for the ILP are all offered online and can be accessed at
your convenience, during the semester that they are offered. The fieldwork
(internship) course has an Internet seminar component in addition
to a mentor and a supervisor who will evaluate the actual practice
in the classroom.
- 3.5 I do not live and teach in Wake County. Is campus attendance
required at any time for this program?
- No, there are no required onsite campus attendances.
- 3.6 What is the minimum time it takes to complete this program?
- All required, non-fieldwork courses, are currently offered twice each year. ECI 561 is in the fall and spring and is a prerequisite to ECI 657. ECI 562 and ECI 657 are both offered each semester. So, the ILP could be completed
within a year if there are no other required courses in the content
area.
- 3.7 How long do I have to complete the requirements?
- The State of North Carolina currently gives you two to three years
to convert a Provisional License to a Class A License.
- 3.8 Do I have to be teaching with a provisional license
to get into the program?
- Yes, you must employed in a school system teaching a business or
marketing curriculum.
- 3.9 How many credit hours do I need for my Class A license?
- The ILP requires 12 semester hours of course work. However, depending
on the letter sent with the provisional license, or your College application
transcript review, you may need additional courses in subject area
content.
- 3.10 Can I enter the program at any time?
- Yes. We have admissions for fall semesters and admissions for the
spring semester. However, you may enroll in ECI 560 in the summer to
meet local school hour requirements.
- 3.11 If I just get my Initial Licensure now, can I apply any of these
course credits toward a M.Ed. in the future?
- ECI 561 and ECI 562 may be used to meet the elective requirements
in the Master's program.
- 3.12 Are there additional courses in business or marketing that I
must complete before I can finish the program?
- That will depend on the letter that you received with your Provisional
License or from the ILP application transcript review. The NCDPI will
evaluate your transcript(s) when you apply for your Provisional License
and make a judgment on your strengths and weaknesses in the content
area. Any weaknesses that are determined will require additional course
work to fulfill the requirements for your Class A License.
- 3.13 What are the costs involved in attending this ILP?
- Fees will vary depending on required course load. You can access
a fee schedule for on campus graduate classes at the University
Cashier and Student Accounts Office - Tuition and Fees and Internet
classes at the Distance Education
web site, click on ECI in the right hand column and look for your
course number. Additionally, there is the $50 Lateral Entry application
processing fee.
- 3.14 What hardware/software is required to participate in this program?
- Many of your technical requirements can be answered at the N.C. State
Distance Education web site listed above. Specific software/hardware
needs can be found at the technical
requirements page.
